Unfolding is a site-specific performance that explores the ephemeral, tender, haunting or ambiguous force and fluid qualities of softness both as a physical and emotional experience. Softness is a texture, a sensation, a force. We reach for it instinctively in skin, voice, light but its meanings stretch far beyond comfort. In its purest form, softness appears vulnerable, harmless, perhaps even fragile. But in life, nature, and human interaction, softness is often more complex. Softness can come across in many different forms and intensities. It can become tender, beautiful and safe but at the same time it can be destructive, painful and a form of control. I was wondering how softness can be perceived and expressed in the most vulnerable, discomforting and unpleasant moments and take on a paradoxical shift. Those once where time is concentrated and hold and which seem not to be anticipated as something gentle, loving or caring. Softness transforms or unfolds to a deeper level in which depending on the context it is powerful not because it comforts but because it unsettles. It exposes a paradox: that vulnerability and gentleness are not always innocent. In their most intense forms, they can blur the lines between care and harm, strength and weakness, truth and performance. Softness in its most discomforting forms often reveals truths we can’t bear to face directly—about mortality, power, shame, love, and control. What are we not seeing in these soft moments?
At the same time it does represents itself as something intimate, something fragil and deeply human within an exchange – between bodies, spaces, time, emotions and memories. The solo deals with softness as a paradox, vulnerability in discomfort, gentleness in pain, and tenderness that unsettles. Frequential movements and lingering motion stretching and contracting like breath, movements suspended, oppositions and gestures of intimacy echo in space. It unfolds itself as an assemblage of layers that mediate on the quiet, diverse and often overlooked power of softness – not as weakness, but as a resilient, transformative force that shapes how we move, remember and connect.

In collaboration with Nadjana Mohr, Laura Schönlau develops a performance that uses bodies and choreography to create living sculptures and moving images, weaving past myths and personalities into a contemporary narrative. The title Swish Swish … and other tales references Mohr’s work, which will be featured in the performance and later exhibited. Schönlau draws from Swish Swish to explore themes of physicality, femininity, and belonging. Through the performative interaction between body and artwork, new perceptual spaces emerge, where the body becomes a vessel of meaning, inviting the audience to experience layered narratives.

Symposium SIMULTANHALLE – Perspektiven auf den Ausstellungsraum II
Im Dazwischen herrscht ein Raum, ein Körper von Resonanz. Sichtbar wird das eigenständige Element, dass erst in der Summe lebendig wird. Im Fluxus bewegen sie sich gemeinsam in Richtung Ephemerität. Organische Form trifft auf kubische Form und initiiert gleichsam die Sprache des sich bewegenden Körpers. Im Abseits, der zeitlose Zwischenraum, vakuumiert in Nähe und Distanz.
Wahrnehmung und der kontinuierliche Prozess der Transformation sind Fundament der Tanzperformance, in der sich die Tänzerin, Laura Schönlau, als Element und Verkörperung des Raumes sieht. Auf konzentrierte Weise ist sie Vermittlerin und greifbare Materie der Raum-Körper-Beziehung. Die Fläche der SIMULTANHALLE wird Resonanzraum und Resonanzkörper, in dem die archetypischen Formen zu Skulpturen menschlicher Gestalt werden – Wiedererwecken vergangener Orte und Plätze des Ausstellungsraumes. Dabei geht sie auf die Geschichte des Ortes, seine äußere Form und Materialität, seinen auditiven Charakter, sowie seine Wirkung auf die menschliche Physis ein.

The research explores the concepts of belonging and identity, ultimately leading to an examination of the boundaries and capacities of the human body. Through physical exploration, it interrogates the external forces that shape human existence and challenges the societal expectations often linked to stereotypes. The study aims to question how these influences affect our understanding of self and embodiment.

UMGELENKT deals with the possibilities and demands that the body is exposed to. The topic of the failure/ error 404presents the body in different perspectives and movement sequences. The video is accompanied by spoken text and a sound that is suggestive of error.

The solo untitled deals with the interplay of body-space, movements become the intersection and language of conversation. The dancer embarks on a journey through the passages and corridors of an unfamiliar space, seeking to physically interpret its essence. In doing so, she not only responds to the character of the environment but also infuses it with new elements, creating a narrative that breathes life and dynamism into the space. Through movement, she weaves her own story into the fabric of the place, transforming it into something more vivid and expressive.

Ein Seil. 20 Meter. 50 mm.
Anfang und Ende. Ende und Anfang.
Zwei Frauen, gleicher Statur an je einem Ende – an je einem Anfang.
Sie stehen sich gegenüber. Blicken sich in die Augen.
Stille.
Ferne. Distanz.
Mindestens 1 Meter 50.
Ihre Körper, verschlungen in den Enden und Anfängen des Seils.
Der Korpus fest gehalten. Umarmt von der Masse des Objekts.
Der Atem beider ist langsam, tief und ruhig.
Konzentration.
Es windet sich, verläuft spiralförmig von der Einen zur Anderen.
Aus der Ruhe ergibt sich ein Zug. Spannung.
Es entsteht eine Balance, denn keine will der Gravitation verfallen. Stabilität.
Der feste Griff um die Struktur. Die Arme verhärtet. Die Muskeln arbeiten.
Steif. Statisch. Ein Ruck – und man fängt sich wieder. Balance.
Frau steht etwas aus und hält sich an der gespannten Situation.
Langsam bewegen sich die Körper. Zur einen Seite – zur anderen Seite.
Mit Bedacht wird das Gewicht verteilt, verlagert. Gegeben und genommen. Geteilt.
Ein Schritt. Zwei Schritte. Im Bogen oder vor und zurück.
Ein Dialog zwischen den Körpern. Zwischen zwei Frauen. Zwischen zwei Menschen.
Zwischen zwei. Dazwischen.
Seilschaft.
